We are partnering with our neighbours and land stewards of Platbos Forest to reforest and rehabilitate the original indigenous coastal species forest that once existed on the land of Bodhi Khaya. Our land is the link between the old growth stands of the Platbos Reserve and Grootbos Reserve. We will do our part to expand and reconnect the small remaining remnants of indigenous forest at Bodhi Khaya to these reserves. 

In our first two years we planted 10.000 trees! Our plan is to plant over 10.000 coastal sand-forest trees per year for the next 30 years, which totals 300.000. We will remove all obstacles, threats and limitations to the natural expansion and regeneration of the existing small clusters. One single tree can absorb as much as 48 pounds of carbon dioxide per year and can sequester 1 ton of carbon dioxide by the time it reaches 40 years old. You can help sequester over 300.000 tons of carbon!

Bodhi Khaya Retreat is an active member and situated in the heart of the Walker Bay Fynbos Conservancy located on the southern tip of Africa. Our commitment is to do our part to fulfill the ideals of the conservancy’s mission on the 217 Ha of land we are responsible for stewarding. Secondly, we do whatever we can to support the conservancy, its membership and objectives and to care for this extraordinary bioregion of the world. 1% of your accommodation at Bodhi Khaya goes toward nature conservation.

We direct all of our surplus funds into land rehabilitation, water conservation, and sustainable systems. 100% of your donation will go directly toward funding the following:

  • Alien clearing, fire preparedness planning, and existing indigenous forest rehabilitation

  • Studying and preserving the region’s fauna and flora

  • Carbon emissions reduction through alternative energy production and sustainable waste management

  • Water conservation and organic permaculture agricultural systems

  • Education & Social/Economic upliftment projects

  • Reduction of harmful chemical and environmental pollutant use
